Overview

Margaret Keane is a distinguished board director and former Executive Chair and CEO of Synchrony Financial (NYSE: SYF), a Fortune 200 financial services firm. She currently serves on the boards of The Allstate Corporation (NYSE: ALL) and Tenable Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq: TENB). Known for her operational discipline, inclusive leadership, and strategic governance, Keane brings deep expertise in consumer finance, risk management, and organizational leadership to boardrooms and executive teams navigating complex transformation.

Career History

Keane currently serves as CEO of Cisive, a compliance-driven human capital management firm. She previously served on Cisive’s board of directors and continues to serve the organization in this dual capacity. She previously served as Executive Chair and CEO of Synchrony Financial (NYSE: SYF), where she led the company’s initial public offering in 2014 and successful spin-off from General Electric (GE) in 2015. Prior to that, Keane held several leadership roles at GE. She was CEO of GE Capital Retail Finance and GE Capital Retail Bank, where she led and oversaw the U.S. credit card business for GE and Federal Savings Bank. The North American Retail Finance business later became Synchrony under her leadership.

Keane joined GE Capital as Quality Leader for Vendor Financial Services and held a number of roles including Global Operations Leader and Shared Services Leader for the Mid-Market Leasing Business, Chief Quality Leader of GECC, and SVP Operations of the Consumer Finance Business. Keane began her career in retail bank operations with Citibank.

Personal

Keane earned a bachelor’s degree in government and politics from St. John’s University and an MBA from the university’s Peter J. Tobin College of Business. In addition to her corporate board and operational roles, Keane also serves as Vice Chair for the Board of Trustees of St. John’s University and serves on the board of trustees for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She also serves on the boards of the nonprofit organizations AdvanceCT and BuildOn. Keane currently resides in Stamford, Connecticut.
